Tasting Notes with Ibrahim
Welcome to Tasting Notes by Ibrahim—a space where I share my thoughts, recipes, and unfiltered takes on the thing I love most: food.
I’m Ibrahim Kasif, and I’ve been a chef for over two decades. Once upon a time, I was fiercely ambitious—ruthless, even—in my pursuit of learning the craft. I fought my way through one- and two-hat kitchens, climbed the ranks too quickly, and found myself a head chef before I probably should have been. From there, I’ve done it all—private chef to one of Australia’s richest families, owner of a one-hat restaurant (Stanbuli), and now, head chef of Nour in Surry Hills.
Along the way, I’ve collected accolades, lifelong friends, and, let’s be honest, a few lifelong enemies. But that’s the game. You have to crack a few eggs to make an omelette.
Through it all, my love for food has never been about the “chef life.” It’s never been about ego, status, or the grind—it’s always been about the food itself. From the moment I stepped into my first kitchen—struggling to button my chef’s whites—to the day I won my first chef’s hat, and through years of leading brigades in top venues, one thing has stayed the same: my curiosity.
This blog is an extension of that. A place to explore, to share, to review, to tell stories. I hope you enjoy the ride.
